Southeast Florida Library Leaders: Building the Next Generation of Service to Underserved Populations
Twenty-four library staff working in Southeast Florida libraries have been selected for the Florida State University's Library Leadership and Management Master's program or the Certificate in Leadership & Management program. All students will receive a full tuition scholarship. The Southeast Florida Library Leaders: Building the Next Generation of Service to Underserved Populations project was developed by Florida State University in partnership with SEFLIN, the Broward County Library and the Miami Dade Public Library System. The project has been awarded a $559,872 Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Grant from the US Institute of Museum and Library Services.
SEFLIN & PBCC Establish Agreement
SEFLIN classes, meetings and events will be held in two Training/Meeting Rooms in the Library Learning Resources Center (LLRC) at the Palm Beach Community College Lake Worth campus. The use of the SEFLIN/PBCC Triaining Rooms are governed by a Letter of Agreement between Palm Beach Community College Library and (SEFLIN) Southeast Florida Library Information Network.

Library Staff and Supporters Honored
The SEFLIN 2007 Awards Luncheon & Program was held on November 16, 2007, at the Ft. Lauderdale Marriott North. Luncheon speaker, Jay Jordan, President and CEO, OCLC, Inc., spoke on the topic - The Future of Libraries. The purpose of the SEFLIN awards program is to recognize institutions and individuals who support cooperation between all types of libraries.
Survey Results Available
In September, the SEFLIN Community of Learning Program requested comments from those who had attended SEFLIN CLP training and from those who had NOT attended SEFLIN CLP training. The 371 survey contributors offered opinions and comments about the Community of Learning Program.

Over 50 people attended the annual SEFLIN Discussion Group Orientation and Planning Meeting.
The first half of the morning featured an orientation to the Discussion Groups, including support from SEFLIN and the Library Administration and Management Committee Liaison. A SEFLIN Update featured new services and features available on the SEFLIN web site since last year. The second half of the morning was used for individual Discussion Group meetings at tables set aside for each group.

Links to the disaster plans of SEFLIN member libraries and county, state and federal government information are provided. Sun Seekers Announced
SEFLIN is pleased to announce the Sun Seekers for the 2007/2008 Sun Seeker Leadership Institute. Sun Seekers were nominated by Board of Directors members and Associate Council members. The Institute will begin with orientation to the Mentoring Process in October 2007. The information sessions will be held monthly from November 2007 through June 2008. The purpose of the program is to develop and enhance leadership skills of library staff by providing opportunities for individuals to contribute to the vitality, growth and success of the library profession.
The names of the 2007/2008 Sun Seekers are listed on the Web site along with the calendar, the mission, and history of this important leadership training program.

Online Learning for SEFLIN members
The SEFLIN Element K® E-Learning annual subscription is renewed for 2007/2008. Contact your Library or Library System SEFLIN Training Administrator to learn about Element K® accounts and Access Keys.
Anyone who has a current Element K® account must renew by adding new Access Keys to the current Element K® login. This will allow continuation of courses in progress and access to the Element K transcript.
Those who are new to online learning and want to enroll in Element K® courses, should also contact the Training Administrator to get an Access Key. See the SEFLIN Element K Renewal and Registration page for instructions on becoming a new subscriber to Element K.

Wikis, Blogs, and Social Networking Tools for Libraries
More than 250 library staff attended the Energize Conference 2.0 Conference on July 18, 2007. The goal of the Conference was to provide a day to learn about Library 2.0 tools. A Web 2.0 Toolkit provided links to practice using some Web 2.0 tools. Presenters and participants added comments and handouts to the Energize2007 wiki.
The Keynote Speaker, Stephen Abram, Vice President for Innovation at Sirsi/Dynix, offered thoughts and insights on Social Libraries: The 2.0 Phenomenon. The afternon speaker, David Lee King, Digital Branch and Services Manager at the Topeka/Shawnee County Public Library, spoke on Making Time for Web 2.0. In addition, Breakout Sessions topics included:

Professional Networking Service for Member Library Staff
The Library Staff Networking Directory offers an online service designed to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and professional expertise among the library staff in member libraries. More than 1,500 staff persons from the Southeast Florida region are listed in the directory.
Library staff may post a professional biography, upload photos, select job duties and professional interests, add hyperlinks to useful Web sites, upload documents and presentations, and identify contacts among the other staff persons in the Directory.
