Abstract: This article presents the staff perspective on the advantages of collaboration between a library cooperative  in Southeast Florida and one of its member libraries. Eleven individuals attended the focus group, representing six different SEFLIN member libraries. Overall, the participants had high praise for the CE&T initiative. The original questionnaire, as well as specific comments and issues raised by participants, are included.
  • Opening Library Doors to International Information Exchange and Cooperation:
The IFLA/SEFLIN International Summit on Library Cooperation in the Americas
(2002) Libraries in Southeast Florida and across the U.S. have enhanced their services and collections of materials in the Spanish language. They have also increased materials targeted at the customer who has moved to the region from a Caribbean nation. However, it is agreed that there remains much to do in order to keep up with the pace of those using and expected to use these libraries.  SEFLIN’s careful review of the issues led to the planning and implementation of a Summit with international significance. The goal of such an event was to advance collaboration between libraries and librarians and to enhance future prospects for cooperation between all types of libraries in the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

  • Needs Assessment Survey Report (2001) This SEFLIN "Needs Assessment Survey" was designed to evaluate the technology needs and levels of ability of staff working in 25 member libraries. Since the job titles and job descriptions of library staff can vary widely, it was imperative that, prior to entering into a program initiative that directly responded to their needs, SEFLIN had to be aware of what their needs actually were.  The survey instrument itself assumed the form of a questionnaire and was distributed to all staff currently working in SEFLIN member libraries.
  • Training Outcomes Evaluation Survey (2001) This survey was intended to measure and assess the SEFLIN Technology Training Program for Southeast Florida Library Staff.  The data collected would directly impact the means by which SEFLIN planned its technology training in the next fiscal year.
